These techniques are just a list of some moves
we have performed in class. They are not a list of moves taught for rank
in our school. They are here to help describe the type of self defenses we
practice. This is an ever growing list of many different types of self
defenses for your enjoyment.

Left, Right Punching Combo (left jab
right cross)
You are in a standing position
Block attackers left jab with a right mantis
block to the inside of the attackers jabbing arm (and stick to it). As the
attacker strikes with the right cross, your left arm performs the same mantis
block the right arm just did (to the inside, stick to the arm). Whenever
the attacker returns the jabbing arm (left) stick to it and follow it back to
the attacker striking with a right spear hand to just above the sternum (hollow
area). While doing this make sure your left hand still has a good grip on
the inside if the attackers right arm. Pull with your left arm as you
drive foreword with your right spear hand. Rotate the attacker to the left
pushing him towards the ground (using your hips to rotate). When attacker
just about hits the ground wheel around your right arm in a clockwise motion
striking up under the attackers right elbow as you drop to your right knee.
Turn right hand counter clockwise and strike with a right tiger's mouth to the
attackers right side neck (use finger tips!).
Lead Left Knife Hand
(you are in a standing position)
As attacker strikes block with a left mantis hand to the
outside of the forearm. At same time right leg steps forward striking with
a right vertical palm heel to the base of the skull. Right hand reaches
around the right side of the attackers head grabbing the face with a tiger claw.
Rotate attackers left palm up with a wrist lock as you pull back on the
attackers head. Right knee strikes to spine. Right thumb digs down
onto left side of attackers neck as the right fingers grab the trachea.
Drop into a horse stance supporting attackers upper spine on your right knee.
Right Hand Club Strike to Left Side of
Head
You are in a standing position with a knife in your right hand
and along your forearm
As attacker strikes, step forward with your right leg as your
left hand blocks to the inside of the attackers forearm. At the same time,
with an inverted arm cut across the underside of the attackers right elbow.
Stab with the knife into the attackers right side. Your right foot kicks
out the front of the attackers right foot dropping him to the ground as you
remove the knife.
Right Stepping Straight Punch
(your left leg is in front)
As attacker strikes step forward to the left as you deflect
the punch to the right. Strike with your right shoulder into the attackers
right side ribs. At same time strike with a right ridge hand to the groin.
Slide your right shoulder down to the front of the attackers right thigh.
At the same time reach down and grab behind the attackers right ankle.
Drive your right shoulder into the attackers thigh as you pull up on the ankle
dropping the attacker onto his back (don't pull the attackers foot up into your
groin). Catch the attackers foot in your right armpit as you strike with a
left knife hand to the side of the attackers kneecap.
Left Ridge Hand to Head
(you have manrikigusari across front of body)
As attacker strikes, wrap chain around inside of attackers
forearm (left end under elbow, right end on top of wrist). Wrap right end
of chain over wrist and under palm. Then wrap the chain up under attackers
palm and pull back towards back of attackers wrist (chain is between attackers
fingers). This will lock the attackers wrist back.
Right Straight punch to head
(you have a short staff along front of body,
palms down)
As attacker punches, duck down and strike with the left end of
the staff to the back of the attackers right knee lifting up his leg.
Rotate the left end of the staff up between the attackers legs. Strike the
attacker just above the groin with the butt end of the staff. Drive the
attacker down onto the ground. The right end of the staff strikes up
through the attackers groin.
Left hook punch to head
(you have a manrikigusari across body)
As attacker strikes, block with a vertical chain strike to
attackers inner forearm ( left high right low). Left side of chain wraps
behind attackers head. Right side of chain wraps under attackers left
armpit. Rotate attacker counter clockwise and lay him down onto his back.
Right end of spike strikes up under chin. Cross the chain and choke the
attacker out.
Left Hook Punch to Head
(you have manrikigusari across body)
As attacker strikes, strike with a vertical chain strike to
the attackers inner forearm (left hand high , right hand low). Wrap right
end of the manrikigusari around attacker wrist, with same side, strike
down onto the attackers left inner forearm (from top) with end of weapon , drive
attacker down. Left end of manrikigusari strikes down onto attackers
collarbone at same time.
Right Front Kick to Groin
(you have notebook under right arm)
As attacker kicks block the outside of the kick with the
outside of your right forearm. Wrap arm under attackers leg and pull the
notebook edge down onto the attackers shin. When attacker his the ground
strike down with the notebook into the groin using the edge. Use the
notebook edge to strike the attackers face in a downward motion (flip notebook
like you are throwing a Frisbee).
Right Punch to Chest
(you have walking cane along front of body, hook on right side)
As attacker punches block the
punch down with the butt end of the cane. Thrust the butt end of the cane
into the attackers throat. Right leg steps forward to the outside of the
attackers lead right leg. With the hooked end of the cane, hook the inside
of the attackers inner right thigh. Use leverage from your right thigh to
throw the attacker to the ground. Strike down with the butt end of the
cane into the attackers intestines.
Left Front Snap Kick to
the Groin
(you are in a standing
position)
Left outside wing block to
the outside of the attackers kick. Scoop kick up as your right foot steppes
in. Strike with a right elbow down onto the attackers upper left thigh.
Right foot side kicks attackers base leg. As attacker falls back strike with
a right hammer fist to the inside of the attackers left knee.
Right Straight
Stepping Punch to The Face
(you are in a standing
position and you are holding a cane across the front of you, palms down, cane
hook on left)
As the attacker punches, hook
the attackers forearm with the hook of the cane and pull down (from the
outside). Strike with the hook end out the cane just below the attackers
nose. Swing the cane down into a strike to the groin. Hook the back of the
attackers right knee and pull. Strike with a left knife hand to the
ribs/stomach as the attacker falls forward.
Right Sword Slash to
Below Right Knee
(your right foot is front and
your have a straight sword in your right hand)
As attackers slashes invert
your sword and block the inside of the attackers blade with the flat part of
your sword ( block the blade close to the attackers handle, your sword tip is
facing down). Cross step with your left leg tight to the attacker. Strike
with a left elbow to the attackers face. Lift sword up between the attackers
legs cutting into the groin (hand holding the sword is palm down for this
strike). Turn the flat side of the blade to face up (clockwise) and step
around to the left with your right leg, step back with your left leg cutting
the attackers inside thighs as you pull the sword out from between his legs.
Straight Sword Stab to
Throat
(your right foot is front and
you have a straight sword in your right hand)
As attacker stabs block the
outside of the attackers sword with the flat edge of your sword from the
outside. Rotate your sword on top of the attackers sword slightly pushing
down. Place the tip of your sword on the left side of the attackers neck
(make sure your sword is still blocking the attackers sword from touching
you). Left foot steps forward as the sword in your right hand cuts across the
attacker neck. Invert the sword and block / Clear a path to the right
(shifting your hips to the right). Turn the blade flat and stab into the
attackers right rib cage using the shifting of your hips toward the attacker
for power.
One Hand Choke
(you are standing, attacker
chokes with left hand)
Duck chin, as right foot
steps slightly forward. Left hand strikes down on top of choking hand. At the
same time your right palm heel strikes up to the outside of the attackers
elbow. Right foot saber kicks the front of the attackers groin (left hand is
still pinning down attackers choking hand at throat). Right hand reaches
under attackers choking arm and grabs attackers fingers (pinky side).
Pull attackers fingers straight to the ground as you drop onto your back. As
attacker bends forward, strike with a left heel kick straight up through the
attackers chin.
No Step right reverse
punch
(your left foot is front)
Rear right forearm blocks the
outside of the punch followed by your left forearm. Both hands mantis grip
over the attackers arm. Strike with a right knee to the stomach. Strike with
a right round house kick to the inside of the attackers right ankle. Spin to
your left striking with at left side kick to the attackers stomach. Keep
turning to your left and strike with a right upwards knee to the attackers
right side ribs.
Lead Right Side Kick
(your left leg is front)
Drop under attackers kick and
throw a lead left hook kick to the front of the attackers groin (from the
ground) Right top of foot hooks behind attackers left foot. Left side kick
strikes attackers inner left knee as your right foot that is hooked behind the
attackers left leg pulls attackers foot out. Left heel stomps up into
attackers groin.
Right stepping inverted
punch to left ear
(attacker is standing to your
left side, you are in a standing position)
Right back of hand blocks
outside of attackers wrist, at same time left tiger mouth strikes up under
elbow (thumb facing you) as your right hand mantis grips over attackers wrist.
Rotate attackers right hand clockwise with at wrist lock as you step under
attackers arm with your right leg (stepping backwards) attacker falls
backwards. Just as he hits ground drop your right knee into the attackers
right inner biceps. Strike with a right back fist (dragging fore knuckles
through attackers ribs). Drop a right reverse punch to the front of the
attackers right shoulder (use your body weight to lean into the impact of the
punch).
Stepping overhand right
(your right leg for forward)
Left outside wing block the
inside of the attackers right forearm. Right tiger mouth strikes into
attackers throat (damn near at the same time at the block). Right leg kicks
out attackers right leg from the inside. As attacker falls turn to the left
striking with a left upwards elbow to the attackers face (use the tiger mouth
grip to pull him in). Follow with a left knee strike high on the inner leg.
Right no step ridge
hand to neck
(you right foot is forward)
Left tiger mouth blocks the
inside of attackers forearm. Right tiger mouth strikes attackers trachea.
Right arm wraps attackers left arm from top. Return your hand in a fist to
your sternum. Right hammer fist strikes attackers groin as you right foot
reaps out his left ankle from behind.
Lead right jab
(your right foot is forward)
As you see the jab
approaching block the inside upper forearm with your right palm. As you do
this have your left hand protecting your right side face. At the same time
saber step in with your right foot into the attackers center line. Strike
with an upwards elbow to the attackers chin. Turn left into a bow and arrow
stance striking with a right inverted palm heel to attackers groin. Spin to
the left striking the attackers left kidney with a left hook kick.
Stepping right punch to
face
(your right foot is forward)
Right outside wing block with
your forearm against the outside of the attackers forearm. Left tigers mouth
grabs the outside of attackers right wrist. Right inverted spear hand strikes
into attackers throat. Right knife hand strikes down onto attackers right
forearm. Right ridge hand strikes into attackers throat as your right leg
steps forward. Right eagles claw grabs down onto attackers right collarbone.
Left inverted eagles claw strikes under attackers jaw / ear. Left knee
strike to spine.
Right spinning back
kick to ribs
(Your left side is front)
Left forearm blocks upward
under kick and hold as right leg cross steps behind your left leg. Strike
with a right spinning back fist to attackers head. Right elbow to spine.
Reach up with both hands and grab the attackers head. Rotate attackers head
clockwise (from your standpoint) pull to your right side flipping attacker
onto his back. Left hand supports behind attackers head. Right palm strikes
up under chin.
Two hand choke
(standing position)
Duck your chin down. Double
punch to outside of attackers elbows. Left leg steps forward. Double punch
to ribs at diaphragm. Double punch up through jaw.
Right front kick to
groin
(you are in a standing
position, you have cane in left hand)
Right leg very slightly steps
45 degrees to the right as you rotate to the left striking the attackers inner
lower leg with the cane. Rotate your hips to the right (like in a front
stance) striking with the top of the cane (just below the hook) strikes the
groin, make sure that your right hand is up protecting yourself . Left leg
cross steps behind your right leg as you hook the attackers inner ankle with
the hook of the cane. Twist the cane clockwise to tighten the grip on the
attacker, pull the attackers foot out as your right leg steps to the right
into a bow and arrow stance (drops attacker on stomach). Hook end of cane
strikes attackers right side neck. Wrap hook of cane around the front of the
attackers throat. Pull back and strike with a left round house kick to the
head (a side kick works well also).
Left hook punch to your
head
(you are in a standing
position with the cane in both hands palm down, hook on left side)
Bring the right side if the
cane up to the inside of the attackers left forearm. Right fist (while
holding the cane) punches the attacker in the chin, as you punch the cane pins
the attackers punch to your right forearm (keep your right elbow down next to
your ribs). As attacker falls your left hand lets go of the cane, your right
hand circles the cane under the attackers left elbow. Your Left hand grabs
the hook end of the cane placing the center of the cane under the attackers
elbow. Keeping the arm pinned in your armpit pull up on the cane with both
hands locking the elbow. Strike with a right toe kick to attackers left ribs.
Left Outside Crescent
Kick
(your left leg is front)
As attacker kicks, step
forward with your right leg as your left hand circles under the attackers leg
pinning it up at your right shoulder. Drop a right elbow down onto the
attackers left quadriceps (you are in a horse stance). Strike with a right
inverted hammer fist up under the attackers chin. Drop your left knee to the
ground as your Right arm reaches for the sky, then drop it down onto the
inside of the attackers left quadriceps (the attackers leg is supported my
your right thigh, time the elbow strike to hit at the same time the attacker
falls onto the ground). Strike with a right hammer fist to the groin.
Right Jab
(your left leg is front)
Right hand mantis blocks over
the outside of the attackers jab. Keeping your right elbow tight to your
ribs, pull the attackers strike to your right shoulder as you strike to the
bridge of the nose with a left knife hand. Left hand grabs the attackers
punch with your palm facing you on the inside of the attackers wrist. Left
hook kick strikes the groin. Turn to the right pulling the attackers arm,
hyper extending the right elbow against your left hip. Continue spinning to
the right striking with a spinning ax kick to the back of the attackers neck.
Right Stepping Punch
(your left leg is front)
Left mantis block to outside
of attackers right forearm. Right mantis wrist strikes outside of elbow,
Right mantis hand hooks around the left side of the attackers neck. Right
fingers dig into neck. Left hand mantis grips across attackers face. Rotate
head counter clockwise pulling it into yourself.
Right front Kick to
groin
(your left leg is front)
Your left shin blocks
attackers kick to the right from the outside. Left foot kicks up to attackers
groin from the rear. Right spinning foot stomp to back of attackers left
knee. Right elbow strikes up to attackers back as he falls. Right reverse
punch strikes down onto ribs when attacker lands.
Left Straight Punch
(your left leg is forward)
Right mantis hand blocks
inside of attackers forearm. Right mantis hand wraps behind attackers neck
and pull down. Left elbow strikes up into face. Left knife hand strikes down
into right side collar bone. Left thumb presses into side of trachea. Throw
attacker to the left.
Lead Right Hook Punch
to body
(your left leg is front)
Left leg saber steps in.
Left downward forearm block to inside of attackers wrist/forearm. At the
same time right forearm drives down on attackers right collarbone. Right
mantis grabs behind attackers neck and pulls down. Right knee strikes to the
face. Right instep kick to the inside of the attackers left knee. Right leg
steps back into front stance, as your right forearm strikes down onto the back
of the attackers neck.
Right Stepping knife
stab to stomach
(your left leg is forward and
you have sai in your hands, shaft along forearm)
As you step to the forward
and to the left, invert your left forearm and strike with the shaft of the sai
along the outside of the attackers forearm. Strike back to the throat with
the hook of the sai in your right hand pulling the attacker to your left. The
hook of the sai along your right forearm hooks the back of the attackers right
leg. Pull up on leg and down on throat throwing attacker to the ground. Flip
the sai in your right hand to the shaft out position and strike with a
straight thrust to the right lung.
Right Stepping one hand
baseball strike to the left side of your head
(your left leg is forward)
Left hand mantis blocks the
inside of the attackers right forearm as your right leg steps forward. At the
same time strike with a right inverted reverse punch to the chin. Drop right
elbow down onto the attackers sternum. Right tigers mouth strikes up under
attackers right elbow (left mantis grip is still holding on) right side kick
to ribs. Throw attacker to ground.
Rear left roundhouse
kick to the head
(your left foot is front)
Left leg saber steps forward
as you strike with a left palm heel to the chin. Right leg steps forward,
strike with a right palm heel to attackers mid section. Drop hands to ground
sweep attacker with a left reverse sweep. Continue your motion into a right
reverse punch to the attackers right ribs.
Right knife stab to
stomach
(left leg is in front. You
have Sai facing out in each hand)
Block the attackers stab with
a left inverted (point of sai facing down) strike to the outside of the
attackers wrist with the shaft of the sai. Slide down and hook the attackers
wrist with the hook of the sai (the hook facing the attacker). Sai in right
hand strikes up from under the attackers wrist using the hook to catch the
wrist (shaft of sai is along the front of the attackers wrist). Rotate sai
down locking attackers wrist to the front of your left hip. The end of the
sai in your right hand strikes up under the attackers jaw. Circle sai in
right hand clockwise into a right stab to the attackers throat.
Right Stepping Stab to
Neck
(left foot is forward, you
have knife in right hand blade out)
Lead left foot steps 45
degrees. To the left, left palm blocks back of attackers elbow. Knife in
right hand circles up under your left arm (clockwise) cutting the attackers
right triceps. Left leg steps forward as knife stabs down behind attackers
left collarbone (make sure when you stab your right shoulder is very close to
the attacker) after the stab circle around behind the attacker pulling with
the knife, throwing the attacker to the right.
Right round house kick
to your left side
(your left leg is front)
Left arm wraps under
attackers leg then back on top pinning it down to the left shoulder / biceps.
Strike with a right palm heel to the inside of the attackers right knee cap.
As attacker falls onto his back, strike his left leg with a right elbow as he
falls. Right inverted tiger claw strikes up through the groin. Slide right
knee up striking into the attackers right hamstring.
Right spear hand to
throat
(your left foot is front)
Block the inside of the
strike with a left hand outside wing block. Turn left hand over and hold onto
attackers wrist. Strike with a right inverted punch to attackers chin. Right
tiger claw, claws face. Rotate tiger claw to the left side of the attackers
head and push to your left (try to put attackers chin toward his chest).
Right knee strikes up under attackers right elbow. Right foot then strikes
down onto the back of the attackers right knee driving it to the ground.
Two Hand Choke
(you are standing)
With left hand pin attackers
right hand down onto your collarbone. At same time step forward with your
right foot as you strike with a right tigers mouth to the attackers throat.
Right hand drives attacker to the ground. Be sure you keep attackers left
hand pinned at your chest.
Same side elbow grab
(you are
standing)
Pin attackers hand down onto
your arm with you non grabbed arms hand. Circle grabbed arm up and over
attackers arm putting your forearm just below the attackers elbow. Make sure
that your forearm over the attackers arm is horizontal. Also make sure that
you still have the attackers hand pinned down to yours. Apply pressure down
with your forearm putting pressure on the attackers wrist / elbow.
Right front kick to
stomach
(your left leg is forward)
Left arm blocks the inside of
the attackers kick. Circle under attackers leg, wrapping over it, pinning it
at your shoulder. Right knee drops to the ground while striking down with a
right elbow to the attackers right quadriceps. Right leopards paw strikes
across attackers right ribs. Circle strike to a right leopards paw to the
inside of attackers right leg
Right side kick
(your left leg is forward)
Left inside of arm blocks the
outside of the kick. Drop to the ground throwing a right reverse sweep to the
base leg. Circle right arm under attackers kicking leg scooping it up onto
your shoulder. Strike with a double palm heel strike down onto the knee.
Right vertical punch to the groin.
Right stepping straight
punch
(Your left leg is forward)
Right hand wing block the
outside of attackers punch. Left foot slides forward. Strike with a right
ridge hand to the throat. Left hand reaches around attackers head from
behind. Strike with a left ridge hand to attackers right temple. Drag ridge
hands across throat (right hand) and eyes (left hand). Continue motion into
inverted punches to the kidneys.
Right hook punch
(your left foot is forward)
Left triceps blocks the
inside of punch (just below elbow). Drive left thumb behind the point of the
jaw. Right spear hand strikes dragons layer in throat. Right elbow drops
onto xiphoid process (bottom of sternum). Right hand hooks behind attackers
right knee. Left knife hand strikes up under jaw dropping attacker onto his
back. Right vertical punch to groin.
